NASA’s JPL appoints its first female director

NASA is not only interested in placing more women in space. Laboratory Propulsion Jet Agency has appointed the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Dr. Laurie Leshin as his first female director. He would regard the role on May 16, replacing the Director of Michael Watkins (who retired in August 2021) and the director of the Temporary Langlenas Larry James. He will also serve as Vice President of Caltech, who manages JPL.

Leshin has extensive experience, both in science and in breaking new land. He has held a senior position in NASA, including the role of the main director at the center of Flight of the Goddard Space. As Deputy Associate Administrator for the Directorate of NASA’s exploration system mission, he put some basis for commercial and artemis spaces. He is the Dean of Science Polytechnic Rensselaer, and has served as WPI’s first female president since 2014.

The incoming JPL director has also pursued his own knowledge. He has become a supporter and contributor to Mars sample refund mission, and helps learn data from Curiosity Rover. The appointment is also a refund of Leshin, because he gets a postgraduate degree at Caltech Caltech said Leshin was the main candidate to lead JPL thanks to the “strategic approach” for science and technology, the recognition of the main role of NASA in science, the navigation of complex institutions and the ability to “inspire the next generation” scientist and engineer. In other words, he can be a fit for organizations where long-term planning is absolutely necessary.
